A
HISTORY OF GOD
Karen Armstrong 1993
The God of the Mystics
Page 250
"Perhaps the most famous of the early Jewish mystical texts is the fifth century Sefer Yezirah (The Book of Creation). There is no attempt to describe the creative process realistically;
the account is unashamedly symbolic and shows God creating the world by means of language as though he were writing a book. But language has been entirely transformed and the message of creation is no longer clear. Each letter of the Hebrew alphabet is given a numerical value; by
combining the letters with the sacred numbers, rearranging them in
endless configurations, the mystic weaned his mind away from the normal connotations of words."

Patterns
"The essence of mathematics is to look for patterns.
Our minds seem to be organised to search for relationships and sequences. We look for hidden orders.
These intuitions seem to be more important than the facts themselves, for there is always the thrill at finding something, a pattern, it is a discovery - what was unknown is now revealed. Imagine looking up at the stars and finding the zodiac!
Searching out patterns is a pure delight.
Suddenly the counters fall into place and a connection is found, not necessarily a geometric one, but a relationship between numbers, pictures of the mind, that were not obvious before. There is that excitement of finding order in something that was otherwise hidden.
And there is the knowledge that a huge unseen world lurks behind the facades we see of the numbers themselves."

The eye of God!
IT STARES down at us from the depths of space, watching our tiny world from 700 light years away. Scientists have nicknamed the image - captured by a giant telescope on the Chilean mountains - the eye of God.
In fact, it shows the death throes of a star similar to our Sun. The blue pupil, the white of the eye and pink lid are created by layers of gas and dust thrown off and illuminated by the star as it comes to the end of its life over the course of thousands of years.
The eye, known as the Helix nebula, is so huge that it would take a beam of light two-and-a-half years to cross it.
Our own sun is expected to suffer a similar fate - but not for five billion years.

Hand of God
Eye in the sky: The Helix nebula
By Dan Newlin;
(Image omitted)
WE'VE already seen pictures of his eye ... now we have the first image of the hand of God.
The ghostly blue cloud seems to form an outstretched thumb and fingers grasping a burning lump of coal. This astonishing image was taken by Nasa's Chandra X-ray observatory, which is orbiting 360 miles above the Earth's surface.
It recalls those of the Helix planetary nebula, whose blue centre surrounded by white clouds earned it the nickname 'the eye of God'.
The hand was created when a star exploded in a supernova, creating a rapidly-spinning 12-mile-wide star called a pulsar, which is deep inside the white blob at the hand's wrist.
The pulsar is spewing out enormous amounts of electromagnetic energy, creating a dust and gas cloud so wide that it would take a light beam 150 years to cross from side to side.
The red disc is a separate cloud of gas. The fingers are thought to have been created as the energy passed from the pulsar to this gas cloud.
Nasa scientists estimate the moment depicted here actually happened 17,000 years ago. it has taken since then for the X-rays, travelling at 670million mph, to reach Earth.

QUESTIONS
Q: My son Major Matthew Bacon was killed by a roadside bomb in Basra in 2005, and my wife Maureen and I are supporters of
the Military Families Support
Group, who told us a remarkable story. Earlier this month, an email
was received by the group from a couple in Sweden.
They told how, on March 21 this year, while walking in the forest near their home, their dog found nine remembrance cards, each of which had the name of a soldier printed on it. One of those soldiers was our son. The nine cards had each been attached by red ribbon to nine white balloons which had all burst but were
together. Who sent the balloons? How did they get to Sweden?
How did so many of - them land in the same place?

Killed in action: Major Matthew Bacon and (inset) Runcorn's Remembrance ballon release
QUESTION My son Major Matthew Bacon was killed by a roadside bomb in Basra in 2005, and my wife Maureen and I are supporters of
the Military Families Support
Group, who told us a remarkable story. Earlier this month, an email
was received by the group from a couple in Sweden.
They told how, on March 21 this year, while walking in the forest near their home, their dog found nine remembrance cards, each of which had the name of a soldier printed on it. One of those soldiers was our son. The nine cards had each been attached by red ribbon to nine white balloons which had all burst but were
together. Who sent the balloons? How did they get to Sweden?
How did so many of - them land in the same place?
LAST year, as Poppy organiser for Runcorn, Cheshire, I organised balloons of remembrance. The people of Runcorn sponsored them and we released one for every British serviceman and woman killed in Afghanistan or Iraq.
The money collected by this sponsorship was donated to the Poppy Appeal, which meant these brave service people were still helping their comrades, even if it was.by proxy. The balloons were white for peace; the ribbons red for the blood that had been shed. The remembrance cards bore, if known, the rank, name, country of death, year of birth and year of death. The balloons were released last November 11 by schoolchildren. The weather was bad, the wind was howling and some of the children had problems keeping hold of the balloons. Some balloons burst before they got very far, so we gathered the cards together, attached them to poppy crosses and laid them in our remembrance garden.
The high winds must have pulled some of the balloons some distance, though I'm astonished to hear they reached Sweden. I'd like to thank the Swedish couple for letting the MFSG know about them. We should never forget these brave men and women, and this was our small tribute to them.

IT HAPPENED TO ME...
I witnessed a UFO
Page 15
Denis Plunkett, 78, a retired civil servant, lives near Bristol with his wife, Maureen, 75. He claims to have seen UFOs in the night sky and now runs a UFO bureau which collates reports of other sightings. Here, he relives the moment he saw something out of this world.
On a wonderful starlit night in June 1966, my wife, Maureen, and I were preparing for bed. I went to pull the curtains and
couldn't believe my eyes. For a moment I thought I was seeing things, but then realised it was nine brilliant white lights dancing in the sky.
I shouted to Maureen to come and look, and for an hour we stared in wonderment, transfixed by the lights, which flashed on and off like lights on a Christmas tree. Initially, I assumed it was an aircraft, but I soon dismissed this theory because the patterns they were making were too irregular.
Suddenly, one light left the group and remained in the same position for ten minutes before rejoining the main pattern, which was a loose formation, with the lights constantly changing positions. Then they disappeared, never to be seen again.

"IT'S all too easy in these cynical times to forget the extraordinary good works being done every day by the women and men of this country: volunteers whose dedication to improving the lives of others without expecting, or receiving, any financial reward is truly humbling.
That is why today we honour our Inspirational Women of 2009 - women whose courage and hard work have improved the lives of so many. We owe them all - and the thousands more like them-the most enormous debt of thanks"

The Fermi Paradox
"Two key scientists who were involved were Lise Meitner and Otto Frisch. They published a paper and shared information with Niels Bohr, the great Danish physicist. He brought the details to the United States. It was then determined that fission had actually taken place with the release of an amount of energy / Page 146 / indicating that the difference in the weight of the new atoms and the original uranium atom had been converted to energy by the famous E = mc2 equation. (E stands for energy, m for mass and c is the speed of light.) A key discovery was that the fission also produced more neutrons immediately indicating that a nuclear reaction was possible."

The Turin Papyrus and the Palermo Stone
"The figure of 39,00o years accords surprisingly close] testimony of the Turin Papyrus (one of the two survivii Egyptian king lists that extends back into prehistoric times First Dynasty).
Originally in the collection of the king of Sardinia, the crumbling 3000-year-old papyrus was sent in a box, witho to its present home in the Museum of Turin. As any school / Page 409 / have predicted, it arrived broken into countless fragments. Scholars were obliged to work for years to piece together and make sense of what remained, and they did a superb job.' Nevertheless, more than half the contents of this precious record proved impossible to reconstruct.29
What might we have learned about the First Time if the Turin Papyrus had remained intact?
The surviving fragments are tantalizing. In one register, for example, we read the names of ten Neteru with each name inscribed in a cartouche (oblong enclosure) in much the same style adopted in later periods for the historical kings of Egypt. The number of years that each Neter was believed to have reigned was also given, but most of these numbers are missing from the damaged document."
In another column there appears a list of the mortal kings who ruled in upper and lower Egypt after the gods but prior to the supposed unification of the kingdom under Menes, the first pharaoh of the First Dynasty, in 3100 BC. From the surviving fragments it is possible to establish that nine 'dynasties' of these pre-dynastic pharaohs were mentioned, among which were 'the Venerables of Memphis', 'the Venerables of the North' and, lastly, the Shemsu Hor (the Companions, or Followers, of Horus) who ruled until the time of Menes. The final two lines of the column, which seem to represent a summing up or inventory, are particularly provocative. They read; . . . Venerables Shemsu Hor, 13,420 years; Reigns before the Shemsu Hor, 23,200 years; Total 36,62o years'.'..."

Noah's wife isn't named in Genesis, but in the Book of Jubilees she is named as Emzara. The Book of Jubilees is a early Jewish religious work that was supressed to such an extent that no complete copy now exists.

The Stairway to Heaven
"Let us imagine ourselves in the Pharaoh's magnificent funerary temple. Having mummified and prepared the Pharaoh for his Journey, the Shem priests now intone the gods to open for the king a path and a gateway. The divine messenger has arrived on the other side of the false door, ready to take the Pharaoh through the stone wall and launch him on his journey."

"In the book of the dead nine objects affiliated with the hieroglyph for Shem were depicted in the division paralleling the shrine of Heliopolis; it could well be that there were indeed another nine space related objects or spacecraft parts on display at the shrine."

"In post Diluvial times, Sumerian records stated, Etana - an early ruler of Kish - was taken aloft in a Shem to the Abode of the Gods, there to be granted the Plant of Rejuvanation and Birthgiving (but he was too frightened to complete the journey).
