This old creed has nothing in it but fear, it is dead itself, it is an Osar-creed, and my Father's son believes not in it."
"Pharaoh," the mother's voice came again, "I must. once more appeal to you and warn you to be cautious and I need not hesitate to do so in the presence of this foreign interpreter, since you grant him such extended audience and take as a sign of his higher origins his mere assertion that as a child he was called the lamb. So he may hear that I warn you to be wise and moderate. It is enough that you go about to decrease the power of Amun and set yourself against his uni­versal rule, in that wherever possible you take from him step by step the unity with Re the horizon dweller, who is the Aton. "Ah, I Assure you, Mama, the people only.imagine that they cling so to Usir," cried Amenhotep,"How could it really cling to a. belief that the soul which goes up to the judge's seat must, pass through seven times seven regions of terror, inhabited by dernons who cross­examine it as it passes in some three hundred and sixty several magic formulas, each harder to remember than the last, yet the.poor soul must have them all by heart and be able to repeat each one in the right place, otherwise it does not pass and will be devoured before ever it reaches the judgment seat. And .if it does get there, it has every prospect of being devoured if its heart weighs too light in the scale; for then it is delivered over to,the monstrous dog Amente.
I ask you, where is there anything in all that to cling to? - it is against all.the love and goodness of my Father above. Before Usir of the lower regions all are equal - yes, equal in terror. Whereas before my Father all shall be equal in joy. With Amun and Aton it is the same. Amun too, with the help of Re, will be universal and will unite the world in worship of him. Tliere they are of one mind. But Amun would make the world one in the rigid service of fear, a false and sinister unity, which. my Father would not, for he would unite his children in joy and tenderness:"

In belief there must be a sizable element of disbelief; for how can a man believe what is true so long as he also believes what is false? If I want to teach the people what is true, I must first take from them.certain beliefs to which they cling.Perhaps that is cruel, but it is the cruelty of love, and my Father in the sky will forgive me. Yes, which is more glorious, belief or disbelief, and which should come before the other? Believing is a great rapture for the soul. But not believing is almost more joyous than belief - I have found it so, My Majesty has experienced it, and I do not believe in the realms of fear and the demons and Usiri with his frightfully named ones and the devourer down there below. The Great Ennead

"The earliest information we have about Egyptian mythology comes from hieroglyphics (picture writings) on the walls of tombs, such as the burial chambers in pyramids. These "pyramid texts" and other documents tell us that from about 3200 to 2250 B.C. the Egyptians believed in a family of nine gods. This family became known as the Great Ennead, from the Greek word ennea, meaning nine. The nine gods of the Great Ennead were Atum, Shu and Tefnut, Geb and Nut, Osiris, Isis, Nephthys, and Horus."

"The Mayas multiplied the baktun 13 to get what they termed a Great Cycle" equal to 5,130 years.
At the same end of a great cycle, the Maya, Aztecs, and other Mesoamerican peoples believed all things would cease to exist and an entirely new world would be ushered in to'start the next great / Page 27 / cycle. The current great cycle probably began in 3114 BC and will end on 23 December 2012.
Presumably the Maya discovered the true solar year using natural cues and careful astronomic observations, though exactly how they did it remains a puzzle. Until recently scholars-believed, their motivation was a.literal worship of time, though new- interpretations since the breaking of the Maya language code reveal that the Maya actually used their calendars to legitimize the acts of kings and other key events by recording with great accuracy the day, hour, and even minute when they occurred. This is shown in countless hieroglyphics, steles and paintings depicting the exact date when specific kings and, queens waged battle, ceremonially mutilated themselves, married and performed important sacrifices.
Maya and other Mesoamerican gods also seem to have demanded that their priests perform ceremonies precisely on time. Nowhere was this taken'more seriously - and to such a bizarre extreme ­ than among the Aztecs. Obsessed with the belief that they must keep time on its proper course, the Aztecs offered a numbing progression of human sacrifices to appease their sun god, Tonatiuh, to assure that he would rise each day and cross the sky.
The Aztecs believed that the sun required, for, 'fuel' rivers ot blood from victims who ranged from priests and criminals to the deformed, though most were prisoners captured in warfare. If Spanish chroniclers can be believed, the Aztecs sacrificed 20,000 to 50,000 people a year in their capital, Tenochtitlan, with each month requiring a prescribed tally of victims: male and female, child and adult. For iristance, in the months when the rains were supposed to come, children were drowned or walled up in caves. The more they wept and cried, the better the omen for rain. Others were flayed to help crops grow and burned to death during harvest time. To feed the need for such huge numbers of victims, / Page 28 / the Aztecs arranged a peculiar agreement with their neighbours to fight regular ceremonial battles not for conquest, but to allow each side to capture large quantities of sacrificial victims. "Obsessed with the belief that they must keep time on its proper course, the Aztecs offered a numbing progression of human sacrifices to appease their sun god, Tonatiuh, to assure that he would rise each day and cross the sky.
The Aztecs believed that the sun required, for, 'fuel' rivers ot blood from victims who ranged from priests and criminals to the deformed, though most were prisoners captured in warfare. If Spanish chroniclers can be believed, the Aztecs sacrificed 20,000 to 50,000 people a year in their capital, Tenochtitlan, with each month requiring a prescribed tally of victims: male and female, child and adult. For iristance, in the months when the rains were supposed to come, children were drowned or walled up in caves. The more they wept and cried, the better the omen for rain. Others were flayed to help crops grow and burned to death during harvest time. To feed the need for such huge numbers of victims, / Page 28 / the Aztecs arranged a peculiar agreement with their neighbours to fight regular ceremonial battles not for conquest, but to allow each side to capture large quantities of sacrificial victims.
