"What one would look for, therefore, would be a universal language, the kind of language that would be comprehensible to any technologically advanced society in any epoch, even a thousand or ten thousand years into the future. Such languages are few and far between, but mathematics is one of them - and the city of Teotihuacan may be the calling-card of a lost civilization written in the eternal language of mathematics."

"Of all the other stupendous inventions,' Galileo once remarked,

what sublimity of mind must have been his who conceived how to communicate his most secret thoughts to any other person, though very distant either in time or place, speaking with those who are in the Indies, speaking to those who are not yet born, nor shall be this thousand or ten thousand years? And with no greater difficulty than the various arrangements of two dozen little signs on paper? Let this be the seal of all the admirable inventions of men.3"

"And with no greater difficulty than the various arrangements of two dozen little signs on paper?"

"What one would look for, therefore, would be a universal language"

The Number

666

Page 137

666

"has been the subject of more comment and speculation than any other cabalistic number, principally on account of the last verse of Revelation 13:

'Here is wisdom, let him that hath understanding count the num-ber of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number

is

six hundred threescore and six. '

By the seasons thou renewest thy creation.

The birds flutter in their marshes,

their wings uplifted in adoration to thee,

The animals dance upon their feet,'

they live when thou hast shone upon them.

The plants are nourished by thy rays,'

they suck life from them as the baby sucks it from his mother.

All living things adore thee, only thee.

THE

PULSE OF THE UNIVERSE

Bruce Caithie

THE UNIVERSE IS A LIVING INTELLIGENCE

Its heartbeats thunder at the centre of galaxies and whisper in the nucleus of atoms. With the spiralling wave-forms of its own essence it creates from within its infinite depths the matter which constitutes all physical substances, living or inanimate. It was-it is-it always will be-timeless.

We are created by this intelligence from the same myriad of wave-forms that interlace the depths of space, connecting all things. We and it are one. For all truth and wisdom look within, for we are a shimmering mass of miniature stars and worlds, with emerald seas and sandy shores, which in their turn provide home for intelligence.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Harmony and harmonic etc. as defined by the Britannica World Standard Dictionary:

1. HARMONY: A state of order, agreement, or completeness in the relations of things, or of parts of a whole to each other.

2. HARMONIC: Producing, characterised by, or pertaining to, harmony.

(a) Music: Pertaining to a tone whose rate of vibration is an exact multiple of a given primary tone.

(b) Mathematical: Derived from, or originally suggested by, the numerical relations between the vibrations of the musical harmonies, or overtones, of the same fundamental tone: Harmonic functions.

(c) Physics: Any component of a periodic quantity, which is an integral multiple of the fundamental frequency.

In this book I discuss the fundamental harmonies of the vibrational frequencies which form the building-blocks of our immediate universe; and those of the theoretical anti-universe which modern scientists have postulated as existing in mirror-like image of our own. I theorise that the whole of physical reality which is tangible to us is formed from the basic geometric harmonies, or harmonics, of the angular velocities, or wave- forms, of light. From these basic harmonies, or resonating wave- forms, myriad other waves are created which blend in sympathetic resonance, one with the other, thus forming the physical structures.

Einstein stated that the geometric structure of space-time determines the physical processes. I theorise that space and time manifest from the geometric harmonies of the wave-motions of light. The fundamental harmonic of light, in free space, in geometric terms being an angular velocity of 144,000 minutes of arc per grid second, there being 97,200 grid seconds to one revolution of the earth.

When physical matter is manifested in the universe the wave- forms of light from which it is formed are slowed down fractionally in order to release the energy required for the formation process. This is demonstrated by the unified harmonic equations in Chapter One. It was found that to calculate the values of harmonic wave-forms that have sympathetic resonance it was possible to disregard zeros to the right, or left, of whole numbers and extract the values direct from the mathematical tables.

Page 206

the vertical barrier formed by the 8-second points it completed the constellation figure by marking the position of Epsilon Bootis . . . This is interpreted to mean that Epsilon Bootis is the origin of the probe.

I do not wish to disagree with Mr Lunan's interpretation of the space signals when subjected to this type of analysis. What I do believe however is that the received signals, and others waiting to be triggered, are for the purpose of teaching us scientific knowledge pertaining to the universe itself. Many different types of information are sure to be coded into the system.

I had heard of the radio signals and Mr Lunan's work, but up until recently I had not spent any time in trying to decipher them. I was occupied with so many other interesting projects that I shelved this particular line of thought for some future date. That was until I received the letter from Mr Cook.

He had found many interesting mathematical associations between the space signals and my harmonic calculations. The most important and interesting piece of information that he passed to me was that the transmission which triggered the space echoes was broadcast on 31.4 metres and that when this wavelength was converted into minute of arc value to compare it with grid harmonics the answer was .016944 minutes of arc!

This was an amazing piece of news. The signals-were tuned to the most important harmonic of 16944, as shown in other scctions of my work. This must be a universal wavelength which will plug us into the space network. Did someone know something as far back as 1928, and are we about to make a serious attempt to communicate, as evidenced by the massive radio grid being constructed in the United States?

My interest was immediately focussed on the timed echoes and a method of approach worked out. The precisely timed delays suggested to me that the intervals were in some way associated with a standard time-base iri connection with the earth itself. The only mathematical constant that would apply, as far as I could see, was the time taken for the earth to complete one revolution around its axis. Regardless of how we measured time, the ratio of the timed intervals measured against the earth's revolution would be a constant. Because of this I could / Page 207 / see that no matter whether I used standard time, or converted the delayed echoes into grid time, the ratios would remain constant. If the space probe was placed in orbit to teach us the secrets of the universe, the memory banks could possibly be mathematically programmed to broadcast a series of universal constants upon which we could base a new set of scientific concepts.

The way to test this was to divide the time of one earth revolution, in seconds, by the delayed intervals of the echoes to ascertain if any universal harmonics were evident.

The first series of echoes to be picked up before a change to varied intervals was spaced at periods of 3 seconds. It therefore appeared that this transmission was an extremely important one. If a specific harmonic were evident here it could point the way for the construction of the whole series. The time in seconds for one complete revolution of the world is 86400.

The calculated ratio for the three second interval:

86400 ÷ 3 = 28800 (288 harmonic) .

No further encouragement was needed to press on with conversion of the rest of the series. The wavelength of the radio signals was tuned to the 16944 harmonic of proton mass, and the key transmission was equal to 288 (twice the speed of light. harmonic), the pulse of the universe. The intelligence that left the message would realise that the civilisation that understood this one mathematical concept could be nearing the stage of venturing out into deep space.

In no time at all I had the rest of the ratio worked out, as tabulated below:

The Canon of Measures

Page 109

"At the root of our traditional units of measurement is the ancient, mystical science of numbers, to which Plato makes an obscure reference towards the end of Epinomis, here quoted from Lamb's translation.

'The most important and first (study) is of numbers in themselves: not of those which are corporeal, but of the whole origin of the odd and the even and the greatness of their influence on the nature of reality. When he has learnt these things, there comes next what they call by the very ridiculous name of geometry, when it proves to be a manifest likening of numbers not like one another by nature in respect of the province of planes; and this will be clearly seen by him who is able to understand it to be a marvel, not of human but of divine origin. And then, after that, the numbers thrice increased and like to the solid nature, and those again which have been made unlike, he likens by another art, namely that which its adepts call stereometry,'

The text is probably corrupt, the expressions are unfamiliar and it is hard to follow Plato's meaning. But the reference, both here and in another passage in Laws, is to some method of relating different classes of phenomena to one numerical system, by which the adept may come to understand the unifying principle in nature. Of this knowledge Plato declares that it is the greatest of all blessings both to him who possessed it and to his community, but if it can not be acquired, the best substitute is simple faith in God since, on the / Page 110 / word of an initiate, matters are far better arranged than we can possibly conceive. He continues,

'Every diagram and system of number and every combination of harmony and the agreement of the revolution of the stars must be made manifest as one in all to him who learns in the proper way, and will be made manifest if a man learns aright by keeping his eyes on unity; for it will be manifest to us as we reflect, that there is one bond naturally uniting all these things,'

DIAGNOSIS OF MAN

Kenneth Walker 1943

Page239

" In no Western philosophy is the difference between man as he is and man as he might become more strongly proclaimed than in that of Nietzsche. This is the theme that underlies the whole of that much misunderstood work Thus Spake Zarathustra, the idea of the Super-man.

I teach you the. Superman. Man is a thing to be surmounted.

What have you done to surmount him?

All beings hitherto have created something above themselves: will ye be the ebb of this great tide and rather revert to the beast than surmount man?

What is the ape to man? A jest or a thing of shame. So shall man be to Superman - a jest or a thing of shame.

Ye have trod the way from worm to man, and much in you is yet worm. Once were ye apes, and even yet man is more ape than any ape.

But he that is wisest amongst you is but a discord, a hybrid of plant and ghost. But do I bid you become either ghosts or plants?

Behold I teach you the Superman!

The Superman is the meaning of the earth. Let your will say the Superman shall be the meaning of the earth..

THE ENTWINED HISTORY OF LIGHT AND MIND

Page 210

"Looking up, we gaze into the dark depths of space, but once again the atmosphere intervenes. Now, however, it plays a different role. In this case, the air catches the light. We look, therefore, through the light-filled medium of the atmo-sphere into the darkness. Or, if we follow Goethe and conceive of darkness as equally, if oppositely, active to light, darkness shines through the light-filled air, and the cool colors arise.

Once you learn to see the law of color in the colors of the heavens, you will see examples of it everywhere, from the blue haze over a smoky pool table, 10 the use of "atmospheric per-spective" by a painter (that which is distant appears blue be- cause of the intervening turbidity of air). Prismatic colors, as in the boundary colors discussed above, are more complex but can also be understood in this way. In all cases, light and darkness meet in a turbid medium to create color.

The account of color production given by the most recent theories of physics offers a similar, if far more exact and math-ematical account. In them, colors arise through the "scattering" of light. The turbid medium provides innumerable scattering centers, be they molecules in air or a glass prism. From them light is scattered according to strictly mathematical laws, and in the process colors are produced. Even the rainbow, set be-tween Alexander's dark band and a luminous interior region, can be understood in an analogous way. Where light meets darkness, colors flash into existence. Colors are, therefore, the offspring of the greatest polarity our universe can offer. In the mythic language of Zarathustra, colors are a reflection of the mighty battle relentlessly waged between the god of light, Ahura Mazda, and the dark hosts of Ahriman. In Goethe's lan-guage,

"Colors are the deeds and sufferings of light," the deeds and sufferings of light with darkness."

GODS OF THE FIRST TIME

"According to Heliopolitan theology, the nine original gods who appeared in Egypt in the First Time were Ra, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, Nepthys and Set. The offspring of these deities included well-known figures such as Horus and Anubis. In addition, other companies of gods were recognized, notably at Memphis and Hermopolis, where there were important and very ancient cults dedicated to Ptah and to Thoth.1 These First Time deities were all in one sense or another gods of creation who had given shape to chaos through their divine will. Out of that chaos they formed and populated the sacred land of Egypt,2 wherein, for many thousands of years, they ruled among men as divine pharaohs.3

Page 413 / 414 Part VII

"For our purposes here it is sufficient to note that a peculiar atmosphere of dangerous and quasi / technological wizardry seems to surround many of the gods of the Heliopolitan Ennead.

Isis, for example (wife and sister of Osiris and mother of Horus) carries a strong whiff of the science lab. According to the Chester Beatty Papyrus in the British Museum she was 'a clever woman. . . more intelligent than countless gods. . . She was ignorant of nothing in heaven and earth. '14 Renowned for her skilful use of witchcraft and magic, Isis was particularly remembered by the Ancient Egyptians as 'strong of tongue', that is being in command of words of power 'which she knew with correct pronunciation, and halted not in her speech, and was perfect both in giving the command and in saying the word' .15 In short, she was believed, by means of her voice alone, to be capable of bending reality and overriding the laws of physics.

These same powers, though perhaps in greater degree, were attributed to the wisdom god Thoth who although not a member of the Heliopolitan Ennead is recognized in the Turin Papyrus and other ancient records as the sixth (or sometimes as the seventh) divine pharaoh of Egypt.16 Frequently represented on temple and tomb walls as an ibis, or an ibis-headed man, Thoth was venerated as the regulative force responsible for all heavenly calculations and annota-tions, as the lord and multiplier of time, the inventor of the alphabet and the patron of magic. He was particularly associated with astronomy, mathematics, surveying and geometry, and was described as 'he who reckons in heaven, the counter of the stars and the measurer of the earth,'17 He was also regarded as a deity who understood the mysteries of 'all that is hidden under the heavenly vault', and who had the ability to bestow wisdom on selected individuals. It was said that he had inscribed his knowledge in secret books and hidden these about the earth, intending that they should be sought for by future generations but found 'only by the worthy' - who were to use their discoveries for the benefit of mankind.

What stands out most clearly about Thoth, therefore, in addition to his credentials as an ancient scientist, is his role as a benefactor and civilizer .19 In this respect he closely resembles his predecessor Osiris, the high god of the Pyramid Texts and the fourth divine pharaoh of Egypt, 'whose name becometh Sah [Orion], whose leg is long, and his stride extended, the President of the Land of the South . . . '20

Page 415

Osiris and the Lords of Etemity

Occasionally referred to in the texts as a neb tem, or 'universal master'; 21 Osiris is depicted as human but also superhuman, suffering but at the same time commanding. Moreover, he expresses his essential dualism by ruling in heaven (as the constellation of Orion) and on earth as a king among men. Like Viracocha in the Andes and Quetzalcoatl in Central America, his ways are subtle and mysterious. Like them, he is exceptionally tall and always depicted wearing the curved beard of divinity.22 And like them too, although he has supernatural powers at his disposal, he avoids the use of force wherever possible.23

We saw in Chapter Sixteen that Quetzalcoatl, the god-king of the Mexicans, was believed to have departed from Central America by sea, sailing away on a raft of serpents. It is therefore hard to avoid a sense of deja vu when we read in the Egyptian Book of the Dead that the abode of Osiris also 'rested on water' and had walls made of 'living serpents,14 At the very least, the convergence of symbolism linking these two gods and two far-flung regions is striking. .

There are other obvious parallels as well.

The central details of the story of Osiris have been recounted in earlier chapters and we need not go over them again. The reader will not have forgotten that this god - once again like Quetzalcoatl and Viracocha - was remembered principally as a benefactor of mankind, as a bringer of enlightenment and as a great civilizing leader. . ."

" As the procession twisted its serpentine course across the Piazzetta and back through the Colonnade, I felt as if we / were moving deeper and deeper into the bowels of a dark labyrinth from which there was no escape. I was perfectly safe, outside in daylight, surrounded by hundreds of people - yet I was afraid. It was some time before it dawned on me that it was the music - the movement - the cere-mony itself that frightened me. Each time we paused in the Doge's wake - at an artifact or piece of sculpture - I felt the pounding in my veins grow louder. It was like a message trying to tap itself through to my mind in a secret code, but one I could not understand. Casanova was watching me closely. The Doge had paused again.

' "This is the statue of Mercury, Messenger of the Gods," said Casanova as we came up to the dancing bronze figure. "In Egypt, they called him Thoth, the Judge. In Greece they called him Hermes, Guide of Souls, for he conducted souls to Hell and sometimes tricked the very Gods by stealing them back again. Prince of Tricksters, Joker, Jester - the Fool of the Tarot Deck - he was a God of Theft and Cunning. Hermes invented the seven-stringed lyre, the Octave Scale, whose music made the Gods weep for joy."

'I looked at the statue for quite some time before moving on. Here was the Quick One who could free people from the Kingdom of the Dead. With his winged sandals and bright Caduceus, that staff of twined serpents forming the Figure Eight, he presided over the land of dreams, worlds of magic, the realms of luck and chance and games of every sort. Was it coincidence that his statue faced this staid pro-cession with its wicked, grinning smile? Or was it, some- where in the dark mists of time, his ritual?

The Doge and company made many stops in this trans- cendental tour - sixteen in all. As we moved, the pattern began to unfold for me. It was not until the tenth stop, the Castello Wall, that I started to put it all together.

The wall was twelve feet thick, covered in multi- coloured stones. The inscription, the oldest in Venetic, was translated for me by Casanova:

'If a man could say and do what he thinks,

he'd see how he might be transformed.

'And there at the centre of the wall was embedded a / simple white stone, which the Doge and his entourage wert regarding as if it contained some miracle. Suddenly, I felt a cold chill run through me. I felt as if a, veil were being torn from my eyes so I could see the many parts as one. This was no mere ritual but a process unfolding before us, each pausc in the procession symbolizing a step in the path of transformation from one state to another. It was like a formula - but a formula for what? And then I knew.'

SPEAKING TO THE UNBORN

"It is understandable that a huge range of myths from allover the ancient world should describe geological catastrophes in graphic detail. Mankind survived the horror of the last Ice Age, and the most plausible source for our enduring traditions of flooding and freezing, massive volcanism and devastating earthquakes is in the.tumultuous upheavals unleashed during the great meltdown of 15,000 to 8000 DC. The final retreat of the ice sheets, and the consequent 300-400 foot rise in global sea levels, took place only a few thousand years before the beginning of the historical period. It is therefore not surprising that all our early civilizations should have retained vivid memories of the vast cataclysms that had terrified their forefathers.

Much harder to explain is the peculiar but distinctive way the myths of cataclysm seem to bear the intelligent imprint of a guiding hand.1 Indeed the degree of convergence between such ancient stories is frequently remarkable enough to raise the suspicion that they must all have been 'written' by the same 'author'.

Could that author have had anything to do with the wondrous deity, or superhuman, spoken of in so many of the myths we have reviewed, who appears immediately after the world has been shattered by a horrifying geological catastrophe and brings comfort and the gifts of civilization to the shocked and demoralized survivors?

Page285

White and bearded, Osiris is the Egyptian manifestation of this / Page 286 / universal figure, and it may not be an accident that one of the first acts he is remembered for in-myth is the abolition of cannibalism among the primitive inhabitants of the Nile Valley.z Viracocha, in South America, was said to have begun his civilizing mission immediately after a great flood; Quetzaicoatl, the discoverer of maize, brought the benefits of crops, mathematics, astronomy and a refined culture to Mexico after the Fourth Sun had been overwhelmed by a destroying deluge.

Could these strange myths contain a record of encounters between scattered palaeolithic tribes which survived the last Ice Age and an as yet unidentified high civilization which passed through the same epoch?

And could the myths be attempts to communicate?

A message in the bottle of time

'Of all the other stupendous inventions,' Galileo once remarked,

what sublimity of mind must have been his who conceived how to communicate his most secret thoughts to any other person, though very distant either in time or place, speaking with those who are in the Indies, speaking to those who are not yet born, nor shall be this thousand or ten thousand years? And with no greater difficulty than the various arrangements of two dozen little signs on paper? Let this be the seal of all the admirable inventions of men.3

If the 'precessional message' identified by scholars like Santillana, von Dechend and Jane Sellers is indeed a deliberate attempt at communi-cation by some lost civilization of antiquity, how come it wasn't just written down and left for us to find? Wouldn't that have been easier than encoding it in myths? Perhaps.

Nevertheless, suppose that whateyer the message was written on got destroyed or worn away after many thousands of years? Or suppose that the language in which it was inscribed was later forgotten utterly (like the enigmatic Indus Valley script, which has been studied closely for more than half a century but has so far resisted all attempts at decoding)? It must be obvious that in such circumstances a written / Page 287 / legacy to the future would be of no value at all, because nobody would be able to make sense of it.

What one would look for, therefore, would be a universal language, the kind of language that would be comprehensible to any technologi-cally advanced society in any epoch, even a thousand or ten thousand years into the future. Such languages are few and far between, but mathematics is one of them - and the city of Teotihuacan may be the calling-card of a lost civilization written in the eternal language of mathematics.

Geodetic data, related to the exact positioning of fixed geographical points and to the shape and size of the earth, would also remain valid and recognizable for tens of thousands of years, and might be most conveniently expressed by means of cartography (or in the construc- tion of giant geodetic monuments like the Great Pyramid of Egypt, as we shall see).

Another 'constant' in our solar system is the language of time: the great but regular intervals of time calibrated by the inch-worm creep of precessional motion. Now, or ten thousand years in the future, a message that prints out numbers like 72 or 2160 or 4320 or 25,920 should be instantly intelligible to any civilization that has evolved a modest talent for mathematics and the ability to detect and measure the almost imperceptible reverse wobble that the sun appears to make along ,the ecliptic against the background of the fixed stars (one degree in 71.6 years, 30 degrees in 2148 years, and so on).

The sense that a correlation exists is strengthened by something else. It is neither as firm nor as definite as the number of syllables in the Rigveda; nevertheless, it feels relevant. Through powerful stylistic links and shared symbolism, myths to do with global cataclysms and with precession of the equinoxes quite frequently intermesh. A detailed interconnectedness exists between these two categories of tradition, both of which additionally bear what appear to be the recognizable fingerprints of a conscious design. Quite naturally, therefore, one is prompted to discover whether there might not be an important connection between precession of the equinoxes and global catastrophes.".

THE BIOLOGY OF DEATH

Lyall Watson 1974

DEATH REGARDED AS A DISEASE

Page 49

"Life and death seem to be inseparable, but if it is true that both are distinct from the state that we have called goth, and if instruments can be produced to measure this difference, then the situation will be at least partly resolved. At the moment there are hundreds of incurable patients all over the world lingering on for months or even years in severe states of debilitation and depletion, seemingly alive simply because of mech, anical or clinical intervention. I believe that organisms under these conditions, like cells in isolation, run down into anonynrity and cease to exist as individuals or even as living units. Emotionally we know this to be true. One only has to see how those looking after helpless cases, despite great kindness and the best of intentions, end up treating them like machines that require tending. The response and the analogy are fair, because I believe (although it has never been measured) that the organisers of life in these goth individuals will prove to be either qualitatively different or at least attenuated to the point where they become quantitatively negligible.

As long ago as 1836, in a Manual of Medical Jurisprudence, this was said: 'Individuals who are apparently destroyed in a sudden manner, by certain wounds, diseases or even decapi- tation, are not really dead, but are only in conditions incompat- ible with the persistence of life. '231 This is an elegant and vital distinction. Death is not 'incompatible with the persistence of life'. Our ability to bring all kinds of death back to life is limited only by the state of our technology. There are, however,

conditions beyond recall - and these are the ones characteristicof goth.

One way of resolving our difficulties with death, is to regard it simply as a disease.287 In many respects it is a temporary state, one that like a sickness, can be cured. Just as there are some diseases still beyond our control, so there are some levels of death with which we cannot yet cope. The terminology of disease becomes relevant. We can begin to speak of 'attacks of death' and to distinguish between someone who is 'only slightly dead' or 'very seriously dead'.

Light velocity is a mathematical standard or constant not because there is an absolute value in 186,300 miles a second, but because no material body, whose mass increases with its velocity, can ever attain the velocity of light. Stated another way: only a material body whose mass is infinite could equal the velocity of light.

"The stream of knowledge," Sir James Jeans writes in The Mysterious Universe, "is heading toward a non-mechanical reality; the univ~rse begins to look more like a great thought than like a great machine."

Tw~ntieth-century science is thus sounding like a page " from the hoary Vedas.

,

; From science, then; if it must be so, let man learn the

," philosophic truth that there is no material universe; its warp and woof is maya, illusion. Under analysis all its lI)i- rages of rea:lity dissolve. As, one by one, the reassuring prqps of a physical cosmos crash beneath him, man dimly perceives his idolatrous reliance, his transgression of the Di- vine Command: "Thou shalt have no other gods before

" Me."f

t In his famous equation outlining the equivalence of mass

I~ and energy, Einstein proved that the energy in any particle ;, of matter is equal to its mass or weight multiplied by the

. square of the .velocity of light. The release of the atomic

~\ energies is brought about through annihilation of the mate- ;- rial particles. The" death" of matter has given birth to an

Atomic Age.

Light velocity is a mathematical standard or constant not because there is an absolute value in 186,300 miles a second, but because no material body, whose mass increases with its velocity, can ever attain the velocity of light. Stated another way: only a material body whose mass is infinite could equal the velocity of light.

This cohception\brings us to th~law of miracles.

Masters who are able to materialize and dematerialize their bodies and other objects, and to move with the veloci- ty of light, and to utilize the creative light rays in bringing into instant visibility any physical manifestation, have ful-' filled the lawful condition: their mass is infinite.

Yogi

The con,s~iousness of a perfected yogi is effortlessly iden- tified not with a narrow body but with the universal struc- ture. Gravitation, whether the "force" of Newton or the Einsteinian "manifestation of inertia," is powerless to com- pel a master to' exhibit the property of weight: the distin- guishing gravitational condition of all material objects. He ,who knows himself as the omnipresent Spirit is subject no

, longer to the rigidities of a body in time and space. The imprisoning "rings-pass-not" have yielded to the solvent: I am He. .

"Let there be light! And there was light."o In the crea- tion of the universe, God's first command brought into being the structural essential: light. On the beams of this immaterial medium occur all divine manifestations. Devo- tees of every age testify to the appearance of God as flame and light. "His eyes were as a flame of fire," St. John tells us, ". . .and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength." t

A yogi who through perfect meditation has merged his consciousness with the Creator perceives the cosmical es-sence as light (vibrations of life energy); to him there is no difference between the light rays composing water and the light rays composing land. Free from matter-consciousness, free from the three dimensions of space and the fourth di- mension of time, a master transfers his body of light with equal ease over or through the light rays of earth, water, fire, and air. .

"If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light." * Long concentration on the liberating spiritu-al eye has enabled the yogi to destroy all delusions con- cerning mattt?r and its gravitational weight; he sees the uni- verse as the Lord created it: an essentially undifferentiated mass of light.

"Optical images," Dr. L. T. Troland of Harvard tells us, "are built up on the same principle as the ordinary 'half- tone' engravings; that is, they are made up of minute dot-
